Invigorated by creating the first
two editions, Wright bought dozens of gladioli at a local farmer's
market and filled the studio with their vibrant colors. In the
following week, he embraced every aspect of the screenprinting
medium as he made the editions "Garden Basket" (48"
x 38", edition of 30) and "Bamboo Vase" (48"
x 14", edition of 30). Unlike the first two editions, which
featured subtle greens and browns appropriate to Wright's view
of the sunflower as a symbol of regeneration and renewal, these
newer prints became a celebration of vital maturity. Wright made
bold use of strong primary colors in each by surrounding them
with rich brown backgrounds.
